Our Garden

In 1999 youth from Del Paso Heights started a school and community garden on the school campus of Grant Union High School in North Sacramento. The students named it the Garden of Ethnic American Treasures (GO EAT) which is now a beautiful place in the community where youth and adults of diverse backgrounds grow healthy food and flowers.

Science classes conduct hands-on labs in the garden to learn about ecology, nutrient cycling, and plant

biology.  Students from the health classes learn about nutrition by growing and cooking fresh produce from the garden.

High school youth work in partnership with community members and teachers to manage the garden so there is an abundance of food for the Garden Café cooking classroom.  An area of the garden is also available to community residents to grow food for their own households.
